My grandma Zayda has always had a personality as colorful as her wardrobe, so I thought it was about time we gave her a proper photoshoot. What started as a fun idea for the family turned into a full production, complete with moodboards, wardrobe planning, props, and a studio full of relatives.

I developed the creative direction and teamed up with my friend Nick at Studio 22 Productions, someone I've worked with on several projects before, to bring it all together. While Studio 22 handled the beautiful digital photography, I directed the shoot and managed to sneak in a few portraits of my own on film between setups.

One of those film photographs eventually made the cover of Artells Magazine, and the series was recognized by the r/analog community. Not bad for a day spent making Grandma feel like a superstar.

A Little Recognition

What started as a fun family photoshoot ended up getting a little more attention than I expected. One of my film portraits of Grandma made the cover of Artells Magazine, and the series was selected as Picture of the Week by the r/analog community on Reddit. Seeing so many people connect with her personality was probably my favorite part of the whole thing. Although Grandma getting to call herself a cover model is a pretty close second.
